MIDO Ocean Star 200: A Popular Design with a New Look

Enter the MIDO Ocean Star 200, a model that builds on the proven design of its successful line but introduces several interesting new features, including a new dial design, the modern Caliber 80 movement, and an expanded range of variants.

The new Ocean Star 200 model builds on the brand’s long tradition of water-resistant watches and offers everything we expect from modern dive watches—solid construction, a reliable automatic movement, and a design that stands out even above the water’s surface.

Diving Watches for Everyday Use

The MIDO Ocean Star 200 sticks to a tried-and-true formula. The steel case, with a diameter of 41 mm, a lug-to-lug length of 46 mm, and a height of 11.7 mm, combines brushed and polished surfaces, giving it a sporty look while remaining versatile enough for everyday wear.

Of course, it features a unidirectional rotating bezel with bold numerals and a luminescent dot at the 12 o’clock position. The screw-down crown and solid screw-down case back ensure water resistance to 200 m, which is more than sufficient for both recreational diving and all common water activities.

The back of the case features an embossed starfish, the symbol of the Ocean Star collection, which has been part of MIDO’s lineup since 1944.

Four colors and one additional rubber option

The new model is available in four different colors, all with a steel bracelet. Customers can choose between blue, white, silver, and black dials.

The black version, in particular, offers an alternative in the form of a black rubber strap, which further emphasizes the watch’s sporty character and can be a practical choice, especially for summer wear.

The steel bracelet features a diver’s extension, so the watch can be easily put on even over a wetsuit. You’ll also appreciate MIDO’s quick-release system, which allows you to swap the bracelet for a strap in just a few seconds without using any tools.

Clarity Comes First

With diving watches, readability is an absolute priority, and the Ocean Star 200 performs very well in this regard.

The structured dial is complemented by applied hour markers and hands coated with Super-LumiNova®, which ensure excellent readability in low light and underwater. At the 3 o’clock position is a day and date display, which is seamlessly integrated into the design without disrupting the overall symmetry.

Orange accents remain a signature feature of the MIDO. They can be found at the tip of the central seconds hand and in the “Caliber 80” inscription on the dial.

Caliber 80 with a power reserve of up to 80 hours

Inside this new model is the proven MIDO Caliber 80 automatic movement, based on the ETA C07.621 platform. Its main advantage is an exceptional power reserve of up to 80 hours, so the watch can easily last through an entire weekend while sitting on a table.

The movement is equipped with a Nivachron™ hairspring, which enhances resistance to magnetic fields and the normal shocks of everyday use. The balance wheel beats at a frequency of 21,600 half-vibrations per hour, and the movement is adjusted in three positions.

There’s also a decorative Geneva stripe on the rotor, even though the owner won’t be able to see it because of the solid caseback.

A tradition dating back to the 1930s

MIDO is one of the brands with many years of experience in manufacturing water-resistant watches. As early as the 1930s, it gained attention thanks to the Aquadura system, which helped protect watches from moisture penetration.

The Ocean Star collection, introduced in 1944, continues this tradition to this day. The new Ocean Star 200 model is therefore not a revolution, but rather an evolution of a proven concept that combines modern technology with the practical features of a true sports watch.
